Born in Maine and returning there to live and study photography in the seventies, Wayne has been creating images for over forty years. “My approach to making a photograph, whether a portrait, landscape, or figure study is to pare down the subject to it’s most essential detail. Much of what appears in the viewfinder has nothing to do with the message or the illusion that I am trying to create therefore it has no place in the final image. My earliest images were brought to life both in the camera and in the darkroom through the magic of chemicals, light, and time. Even though my color images are digital, as often as is practical, I still prefer to use film and the darkroom developing process for creating my black and white photographs.”
Having studied, taught, and practiced photography for most of his adult life Wayne admits that his passion for creating photographs has only increased as time has passed. The subject matter in his photographs is as varied as the experiences in his life. Wayne has earned his living as a photographer, musician, woodworker, logging with draft horses, dairy farmer, over the road trucker, machinist, computer systems engineer, and teacher. All of these occupations have provided ample material for Wayne’s images.
